Big Corona Beach
Here you can rent a boogie board and play all day
in the surf, enter into a game of beach volleyball or enjoy a stroll
down the jetty walk as you view the boats entering Newport Harbor. This
is a great place to kick off your shoes and walk in the sand, relax and
enjoy the day. The bluff directly above Big Corona, known as Lookout
Point, is the local's favorite gathering spot to view the sun setting
over Catalina Island. Bring your camera here any time of day or evening
to capture one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Little Corona Beach
"Little Corona" is a Marine Life Refuge
and a very special secluded cove at the south end of the main beach.
This is the perfect spot to visit the beauty of the California tide
pools. Our tide pools are very precious to us, please enjoy their
splendor while helping us preserve their life. Marine life may not be
removed from the tide pools. At times you may find a Marine Preserve
Officer available to answer questions or point out some of the best
pools to view. Look for such specimens as the Sea Urchin, Starfish and
the Sea Anemone. Here you will also find scenic rock formations that
make for a great picture taking spot.
Whale Watching
The California Gray Whale makes the most
spectacular and the longest mass migration of any marine mammal. Grey
Whales migrate annually along the west coast of North America from the
summer feeding grounds in the Bearing Sea to the winter grounds of the
Baja California lagoons and back again along the Orange County coast
during the months of December, February, March and early April.
Since the Grey Whale can be readily found within a few miles off the
coast, a simple cruise of a few hours lets thousands of people view not
only the whales in their natural habitat, but also many species of
resident marine animals, such as common dolphin, bottlenose dolphin, sea
lions, marine birds and occasionally killer whales and sharks.
